Google Keyword Planner: A Step-by-Step Guide

Unlock the power of keyword research with Google Keyword Planner. Google Keyword Planner is a free tool that allows you to research keywords and find the most relevant to your business. This tool is essential for search engine optimisation (SEO) and can help you to improve your website’s visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Google Keyword Planner.

Step 1: Sign in to Google Ads

To use Google Keyword Planner, you must have a Google Ads account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for free. Once you’ve signed in, click the “Tools & Settings” button in the top right corner and select “Keyword Planner.”

Step 2: Choose Your Goal

Google Keyword Planner offers two options for finding keywords: “Find new keywords” and “Get search volume and forecasts.” Then, choose the option that best suits your needs.

Step 3: Enter Your Website or Landing Page

If you choose “Find new keywords,” enter your website or landing page into the “Your landing page” field. This will give you keyword ideas based on your website’s content.

Step 4: Enter Keywords or a Product Category

If you choose “Get search volume and forecasts,” enter the keywords you want to research in the “Your product or service” field or select a product category from the drop-down menu.

Step 5: Set Your Targeting and Settings

In the “Targeting” section, select your keywords’ country, language, and target audience. In the “Settings” section, choose the date range for your keyword data and the type of results you want to see.

Step 6: Get Keyword Ideas and Data

Once you’ve entered your information, click the “Get ideas” button to see a list of keyword ideas and data. The data will include the average monthly searches, competition level, and estimated cost per click (CPC) for each keyword.

Step 7: Analyse Your Results

Take some time to analyse the results from Google Keyword Planner. Look for keywords that have a high search volume and low competition, as these are the keywords that will be easier for you to rank for in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Step 8: Add Keywords to Your Plan

Once you’ve found the keywords you want to target, you can add them to your plan. Select the keywords you want to use and click the “Add to plan” button to do this. You can then use this plan to optimise your website’s content for search engines.

By following these steps, you can effectively use Google Keyword Planner to research keywords and find the most relevant to your business.
